Facing the Real World

Life’s a roller coaster ride. You get equal amount of high swings and low slides while riding it.

Human beings tend to live in the past regretfully and anticipate the future more than enjoying the beauty of the ‘Now’. The charm of the good times is that it makes you live in the present.  It makes you forget that times might change. If God created the good times only, one would have never been able to value it. A phase of life can be termed as ‘Worse’ when life takes a sharp unpredictable turn leaving you powerless.  Have you ever been trapped in a situation when you feel helpless or can’t stop cursing your fate? When you wish that someone will pinch you hard and you will realise that it was just a bad dream?  When you feel being a victim to the things that are not under your control or even if they were, you have been punished much now for the impulsive actions you took once?

Of course yes! Everyone has faced his share of bad decisions in life. It all starts from choosing one path over another while Robert Frost’s ‘The road not taken’ starts playing melodiously in the background. And the worst comes when you realise that the road you opted for wasn’t best suited for your advancements.  Life is no Karan Johar’s movie in which the maximum amount of problem a girl could face was not getting her winked eyeliner in shape.

Let’s take an example. Suppose you won an award at your school when you were in 1st standard. You were extremely happy that time as it was your first award. Your mom kept in the living room so that the guests could see as it was a big thing to have happened. Two years post that, your happiness faded away a little and you agree to put it in the bedroom as it started occupying unnecessary space. A few years hence, you don’t mind keeping it in the almirah because the amount of happiness you got from it reduced way more. Likewise, the obstacles in life follow the same pattern. – problems appear to be huge at the first encounter. It is rated as the highest in your priority chart and you start to panic, thinking that there is no life beyond that problem. Eventually, you realise that the problem is too small to be thought of in the future.

‘If the good times don’t stay with us for life, the bad times won’t last too’

I agree that patience doesn’t come handy at the time of stress. Neither your mom’s pet phrase “it must have happened because you don’t eat healthy food” nor dad’s phrase “every problem can be solved by getting up early in the morning” would help. Surely, no one can wear your shoes and walk a mile to understand the proximity of your problem. But think, would fretting over it constantly help? Would cursing your fate and nagging without doing anything about it fix your issue? No, thinking about it calmly certainly will. The answers to everything are there in the universe. The lesser you will stress yourself and work efficiently; the faster you will be able to locate them.  Even God helps those who help themselves.

Life’s a beautiful journey in which we are the actors and God is the director. Interestingly, there are retakes a well. When something goes wrong, we should work on it passionately till we get the best cut. And when we do that, the amount of happiness we derive from it cannot be measured.

Trust God, give things time to settle and it won’t be kept as more than a silly memory in your book of life.
