TRAINED EMPLOYEE VS UNTRAINED EMPLOYEE

The only thing worse than training an employee and having them leave, is to not train them, and have them stay – Zig Ziglar

Have you ever seen a vase with its plant being at an almost dead state? It does not look like a cake to the eyes. Its leaves turn from green to brown and begin to shrink in size. The stems and soil dries out. Have you ever thought why that plant turned to this condition as when you bought it, it was fresh, green and soothing to the eyes? The reason is that it was not watered and given proper sunlight, or in simple words, it was not being taken care of.

Do you think of throwing that vase away? If yes, then either you don’t have any knowledge about plant keeping or you are too emphasised on buying a new vase which would lead to an increase in your cost. But if you start watering the plant and giving it adequate sunlight, the plant will retain its original form, or in some time, be even better.

Likewise, an employee on joining an organisation is filled with optimism, updated knowledge about his work and is keen to perform well in his field. He wishes to set his foot on his work by working passionately and with utmost dedication. But his power packed energy fades away with time on doing monotonous work everyday. His morale comes down when he ceases to find positive energy around him. His performance, productivity and efficiency tend to decline when his growth is not valued by his employer.

Untrained employees take upto six times longer to perform the same task as a trained employee – HP

The sole solution of this problem that every employer/company faces is ‘Training’. Training facilitates bigger job satisfaction and morale among employees.  It boosts the motivation level of employees and increases the belief in employees that they have good work-life balance.

The productivity, output and judicial use of resource handling is far better of a trained employee than an untrained employee. Functional training helps in improving the quality of ‘Division of Work’, making the employee sharper in his field of expertise, while soft skills training assists in the overall personality development of the workforce to enable him to be a better corporate Individual.

Moreover, with proper training being conducted in the organisation, the employees do not have a bag full of doubts to ask their manager at every step of work. It helps in giving the managers time that they can invest in other useful activities and eliminates the need of constant approvals.

Training also helps in preaching the concept of ‘Uniformity’ in an organisation. It helps in setting benchmark for all the employees. It aids in not only the proper facilitation of work, but also guiding the employees on how to do the work.

Training has been proved to be very effective when an organisation faces the challenge of absenteeism, higher attrition rate, less cooperation in inter departmental activities, employees not being able to multitask and frustration among the employees.

Though a company is considered as a separate legal entity, the truth is that a company cannot function without the Human Resource. A building can stand strong and bear enough loads of the floors added to it only if the foundation is strong, and that’s exactly what training helps to achieve.

Many companies feel training to be an unnecessary and an expensive activity. They but they do not realise that spending a handful can make their turnover increase manifold and employees feel valued.

Do you still want the tasks to be completed taking an extra time or do you want effectiveness in your business? Do you still want the absenteeism, lower retention of employees or you want the loyal, smart working employees to stay? Do you still want to waste unnecessary resources or you want the judicious consumption of resources to happen? Are you still satisfied with the way your employees perform or do you want them to work for you at their best unknowing capacity that we can enrich?
