Pursuing Happiness

They say that the hardest thing is to know yourself, and when you do that you have mastered life. I find myself as a dreamer and an optimistic lady with strong determination, a pleasing personality and the ability to be versatile when needed. To always remain self-oriented and achieve higher levels inmy career has been my professional objective and to find time for making myself available for the ones in need, my personal objective.

We live in a society, a weird one actually. We have been accustomed to thinking that we have to get something, something like money, high valued goods, an extravagant lifestyle and a perfect partner in order to be happy. In other words, we have been in such an environment which forces us to think that only a complain free life and life with no problems can make us happy. Not a single person existed or exists or will ever exist without having hurdles, or any personal pains.

Joyce Meyer, Oprah Winfrey, Helen Keller, Bill Gates, Lionel Messi, Steve Jobs, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa… all of these great people had their own challenges.

What if:
• Steve Jobs worked as if he needed only money?
• Mother Teresa loved as if she would be hurt?
• Nelson Mandela gave as if he everything would be taken from him?
• Helen Keller sat down doing nothing considering herself handicapped?

These great people, instead of complaining, worked harder and smarter. They focused more on their blessings, their ability to grow higher and at the same time contribute to others. They did not let hardtimes deter their dreams, instead learned from them and kept moving ahead.

A happy or successful person is not someone who is living in a certain set of circumstances, but rather someone who is livingwith a certain set of attitudes. Happiness doesn’t depend on getting rid of all conflicts and problems in life… rather, it depends on learning how to deal with those problems and conflicts and knowing how to rise above them to enjoy the good things.
We are busy counting things that we do not want or have in our life: a cheap cell phone, a small apartment, private cars, a difficult partner or lunchbox we dislike and so on.

Counting our troubles, we forget other realities: even a cheap phone is helping you stay connected with your loved one; no private cars but other ways you are saving earth’s energy or you are focusing and working hard to get one; a difficult partner since God wants you to bless him with love. He chose you for that and at least you have a lunchbox and are not starving like hundreds of other people who have no food to eat at all.

We simply can’t feel real happy unless we’ve felt heartache. We can’t have a sense of victory unless we know what it means to fail. We can’t know what it’s like to feel whole and loved until we know what it’s like to feel completely shattered and hated.

Hard times are often blessings in disguise. We must let go and let life strengthen us. No matter how much it hurts, we need to hold our head up and keep going. This is an important lesson to remember when we’re having a rough day, a bad month, or a crappy year. Things will unquestionably change – and we will not feel this way forever.

Truth be told, sometimes the hardest lessons to learn are the ones our spirit needs most. Our past was never a mistake if we learned from it. So take all the crazy experiences and lessons and place themin a box labeled “Thank You”.
